Film Distribution

I think that the film for the opening sequence we (group) are making should be a British independent film. So the film will be produced outside of a major film studio system. Also it will be produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies or / and maybe distributed by subsidiaries of major film studios.

The independent film will be made with a considerably low film budget compared to a major studio film. The film could have a limited release but we are hoping to have a major marketing campaign, which could lead to the film to have a wide release.

Because Independent films are often screened at local, national, or international film festivals  before distribution (theatrical and/or retail release for example Raindance Film Festival, BFI London Festival, Cannes and Sundance) we want to do that to the film and hopefully get more distributors for the film. So the independent film production could rival a mainstream film production if it gets the necessary funding and distribution.

We will be relaying on viral marketing a lot (thought the internet from things like social networking sites leading to word of mouth between friends, families and people) to advertise the film to audiences as well as newspapers posters, train posters, radio, trailer and small interviews. Also if money is available through funding we could look into tv adverts, billboards and tv promos and a premiere

Examples of well known British Independent films:
-This is England
-Slumdog Millionaire
-The Kings Speech

Examples of companies which help distribute / found / produce independents we could use of the groups film:
-Film4 Productions
-Lions Gate Films
-Summit Entertainment
-ThinkFilm
-Entertainment One
