Film Audiences #1

All films have a target audience. A target audience is a certain group of people characterized by similar hobbies and mutual interests. Every film has a target audience because a film maker makes films so that a certain group / type of person would watch it so the film is being watched and money is being made.

The actors in the film, the genre & sub-genre as well as the film release date are all important factors that film makers take into consideration so it suits the target audience. For example some of the things they would have to consider are the target audience’s gender, age, personality, values, attitudes, interests and lifestyles

Target Audience for Thriller Films

I think that the target audiences for thrillers are for people around the age of 16 to late 30’s or early 40’s for both genders but they do change depending on the sub-genre for example a thriller romance will suit the target audience for females more of the age group around 16 to late 30’s.

But the target audience of a thriller film will have to be a person who will have to think to understand some things because thrillers can get a bit confusing and they will have to be able to have a long attention span and be understanding of the element of surprise for example in the film Disturbia there ate a lot of surprise.


After asking 2 family members aged 16 & 19 and members of my group these 3 questions: What do you what to see in Thriller Films?, What makes a Thriller Film great? and What is your best sub genre for a Thriller?
I found out that people want to see fast movements such as running and problems in thriller films, being made to think and not always being able to predict what is going to happen next is what makes a Thriller Film great and also that the best sub genres for a Thriller Film is Supernatural Thriller, Sci-Fi Thriller, Action Thriller & Crime Thriller
